2020 Days of Caring

Days of Caring Logo

This year's Day of Caring will look different than in previous years. The Coronavirus has required us to rethink how we help the nonprofits in our community. Traditionally companies would offer their employees volunteer time or the employee would use their own time to volunteer for projects that community nonprofits need to be completed. This year we are very aware of the importance of social distancing and the use of masks. So this year we will be having Days of Caring. Each of these days will have projects volunteers can choose from.

The First is a Pop-Up Teacher Store. Feed the Children, OG&E and Georgia Pacific, along with Lake Area United Way will provide supplies that teachers can choose from for free. Volunteers are needed mostly on September 18th to set up the store. The Muskogee Civic Center generously donated the civic center space for the store. A few volunteer slots will be available the day the store opens on September 19th.

The Second Day of Caring will be October 9th. This day companies can send small groups of employee volunteers to work on a project at the nonprofit or they can choose a project they can take to their facility to complete. If companies prefer, they can have a drive for items that nonprofits have said they need. This could include diapers, baby blankets, personal grooming products such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, lotions, etc., art supplies, canvasses of all sizes, paints of all mediums (acrylic, watercolors, oils), paintbrushes, cleaning products (laundry items, dishwasher soap, dish soap, other cleaning products), paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, printer paper, spirals, composition notebooks, napkins, kleenex), canned food collections.

The Third Day of Caring will be November 5th will be a blood/food drive. Blood donors will be asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the location of the blood drive (DBA). This is a great opportunity for companies to run an internal food drive and to encourage employees to give blood.
